Do you have an HVAC system at your home? Check your furnace filter every month or frequently and change it when you find it dirty. Clean furnace will give you better heating in the winter and cooling in summer.
Changing a furnace filter is perhaps the quickest and easiest way to maximize the efficiency of your HVAC system and to help purify your home’s air. Listing some steps to follow, and you’ll keep your furnace happy all season long.
Step 1
The basic role of the filter or it is designed to trap dust, dirt, and airborne particles before they can get into the system and potentially damage the fan or it’s coil. You must discover first what type of filter fits your furnace. Some are seated into a small metal slot at the side of the furnace, while others are located behind metal screens or under panels. Always turn off your furnace before reaching into it or removing a filter.
Once you made your unit off, remove the existing filter carefully, ensure that no filter materials remain there. Look for an arrow sign on the filter indicating airflow direction. Using a marker, mark the airflow direction on the outside of the furnace, it will always help you to remember the right way to install the filter in the future.
A plastic frame filter is a reusable, and you can clean it easily using a vacuum or water. Just make sure to let it dry out completely before reinstalling.

Step 2
Get your filter of the same size from your local hardware store. The choice is yours to buy a disposable or reusable filter, both work good. Remember, buying a disposable filter in bulk may save some money over buying them individually. And if you choose plastic frame filters which reusable, need regular cleaning.
Step 3
Now It’s time to install your new filter, so you have the arrow mark, the same way as it did on the filter that you removed. While installing, you’ll see markings that tell you which side of the filter should face the furnace. Slide the filter in the place and take a time to adjust, if something looks wrong. Once your filter is at the right place facing the right way, replace any panels or covers. And that’s all. It was easy na!
It is recommended to keep a record on your calendar reminding you when to change or clean next in the future.
This little change or clean regularly can save you money and keep your furnace in top condition.
