We all know that saving energy is very important. Have you ever thought about how doing this can benefit the earth, as well as your wallet? You might not realize it, but you might be wasting a lot of energy, especially in the harsh winters when you have to protect yourself from the bitter cold. If you can use less energy to perform the same task and get the same results, why not eliminate the energy waste? To help you avoid needlessly using up large amounts of energy, here are some tips to be more efficient:

1. Insulate your doors and windows: Weather-stripping can close up any cracks. In the winters this will stop the cold from coming in and the heat from escaping, and vice versa in the summers.

2. Insulate the attic: If your home is insulated properly, it will not let the heat/cold escape and will trap the desired temperature in while not letting in exterior temperatures. Insulating the attic can affect the temperature inside the rest of the house, and it is a great way to control heat in the air.

3. Use thick curtains : This is an easy trick that can prevent heat from escaping and cold from coming through. They’re also great for the summer when you want to prevent the sun heating up your home.

4. Replace older lightbulbs: Changing to fluorescent lights is an easy and efficient upgrade. Light bulbs are one of the most energy hungry things people use, particularly when a lot of them are left on continuously. Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL bulbs) use up to 75% less energy.

5. Turn your heat down: This is a very simple method of saving energy. It is better to dress accordingly and put on a sweater in case you’re still cold, because by turning your heat down even just a little bit, you will save on your energy bill.

6. Clean vents: Cleaning HVAC vents and ducts regularly according to manufacturers’ guidelines helps to keep them in their top condition, so they do not unnecessarily use up energy.

7. Buy new appliances: If you’ve had appliances which have been continuously working for a long time, it might be time to replace them. You might think that getting them repaired again and again is the better option, but replacing them with newer, more efficient appliances can be more beneficial in the long run.

These tips will prove to be extremely helpful for extreme weathers; not only will you be saving your money, but this will also have a positive impact on the environment. For any required assistance, call us at:416-259-6767
