The average furnace lifespan covers 10–18 years. To remain efficient during these years, consider the following things before purchasing.
- Fuel Type. Furnaces can run on gas, electricity, propane or solar energy. Learn which of them will be preferable to power the equipment in your house.
- AFUE Rate. This number shows how much energy a furnace needs to produce enough heat. The most efficient are 95%+ AFUE.
- Model Type. You can choose low or mid-range furnaces such as Goodman, Rheem, KeepRite, York, American Standard, Bryant, Amana, Trane or premium ones such as Lennox or Carrier.
- Furnace Rebates. You can consult your local HVAC contractor regarding furnaces that are qualified for any utility or government energy incentives or rebates. They can save you more than $5,000.
