Furnace Repair and Maintenance

There are a few simple yet reliable methods of making your HVAC systems more efficient. Changing the filters regularly, getting maintenance done annually, getting issues as soon as possible are all ways of doing so.

Many of us don’t think about it, because it might not seem like a big deal, but ensuring that your system remains at its best state is, in fact, very important. It takes only a little of your time, but it can help your system function properly at all times, and additionally helps you lower your bills as it consumes less energy.

Regular maintenance greatly affects the health of your furnace, and giving your furnace a bit of an efficiency checkup isn’t complicated. These are a few easy and low-cost tricks that will help you lower energy expenditure while maintaining the best output of your HVAC system:

Conducting annual check-ups

Even if your HVAC system seems like it is working just fine, it is still important for a professional to perform a check up once a year to make sure that it actually stays that way. While you may not notice if anything is wrong, professionals are able to spot even the slightest of problems that may turn into bigger disasters over time. This way, they can help you make repairs to prevent such disasters from happening. The cost of maintenance and such small repairs is also much smaller than the cost of repairs for a disaster.

Taking care of repairs as soon as possible

You must make sure that your HVAC system is in its best condition before you proceed to use it. If it produces odd sounds, or there is an excessive amount of moisture or dust around the system, it is a sign for you to schedule a repair session. As mentioned before, it is always best to solve small problems before they turn into larger issues. Ignoring minor problems and not getting your system repaired as soon as possible may lead to huge internal damage.

Changing your filter once every 3 months

When you forget or skip changing your furnace filters, various problems may arise. Dirty furnace filters lead to disasters for heating and cooling equipment, home comfort, and indoor air quality. Dirty filters cause the furnace to require more pressure and thus more energy to pump hot air around the house, and they may even clog the furnace. Changing your filters every 3 months will significantly increase furnace efficiency. It is necessary to get them checked and changed on a regular basis.

Making sure all the micro-leaks around your doors and windows are sealed

This one doesn’t have anything to do with your furnace itself, but sealing off micro-leaks around your doors and windows can have a big impact on how much you need to use your furnace. Try inserting silicone gel into tiny creases located near your doors and windows to reduce the amount of wasted heat. No matter how small, those leaks can drain a lot of heat and force the HVAC system to work harder than it needs to.

This tip isn’t directly related to your furnace, but is still effective when it comes to furnace efficiency. Sealing micro-leaks around your doors and windows means that you won’t have to use your furnace as much anymore, and it is surprising how much impact this has. You can try applying silicone gel into the tiny dents and holes near your door and window frames, and this way you will reduce the amount of heat that goes to waste. Even if they are small, these leaks drain a lot of heat and force your system to work much harder than it needs to.

Getting a programmable thermostat installed

Based on your programmed input, a digital thermostat decreases or increases the temperature. This device can turn down the heat at night or in situations when no one is home, and it can also turn the heat up when it gets too cold. This helps to ensure that no energy is wasted in unnecessarily keeping the house warm when no one is home, and likewise, you can come home to a warm home without having to waste a ton of money for it. This also greatly affects your monthly utility bill, as it helps you be as efficient as possible when it comes to your heating system.
